With experienced farm vets and support staff you can be reassured that you will receive a professional level of service from a team that fully understands the requirements of our farm clients.
Our beef clients vary from pedigree sucklers, through to commercial herds and fattening units. However they all strive towards maximising output with minimum input. Attention to detail is key for this to be realised. We are able to offer a comprehensive beef service which includes:
We have the facilities to hospitalise any calves that require intravenous fluids and intensive care and are able to carry out examinations and some surgical procedures (eg hernia repairs) as necessary at the practice.
Every dairy herd is assigned a designated vet who will carry out all routine visits and will be the primary point of contact for the herd. We believe that this continuity is important to enable us to build an effective working relationship with our clients. We promote regular discussion in order to identify any issues and be pro-active in our approach to dairy herd health management.
Full herd health planning including assistance with supermarket and milk contract compliance:
We offer a range of services for sheep clients, whether small pedigree flock or large commercial units. Flock health planning and preventative medicine are essential for efficient flock management.
We believe that sheep medicine is much more than seeing a ewe for a difficult lambing, it is about flock medicine and working with farmers to give pro-active veterinary advice in order to get the most out of the flock throughout the farming year.
Our Farm SQP, Becky Skaife carries out faecal egg counts in-house and can advise clients on all aspects of worming and parasite control.
We are members of the Sheep Veterinary Society.
What we offer:
With an ever increasing number of small holders in our area we are keen to offer a service which meets their needs. Whether its help with worming and vaccinating, or educational meetings and training workshops we are sure that our Smallholders Club will provide you with good source of information. If you are new to owning livestock, or would like to refresh your knowledge then get in touch and see how we can help.
Beef, Sheep and Dairy
As a practice we are all too aware of the consequences of over-use of wormers and fluke products. Our receptionist, Becky Skaife (R-SQP) is fully trained in all matters parasite related and carries out faecal egg counts in-house. We promote the ethos of ‘use responsibly; use in the future’. We promote the responsible use of parasite products.
We carry out all government funded and private TB testing work for our own clients. We know that farmers prefer to see a familiar face or have a vet on farm that is based within the local area so we also offer this service to clients who are not registered with Derwent Vale. All TB testing is completed through XLFarmcare North, our delivery partner.
Jo Brooke (Farm Office & Accounts) is our TB-Coordinator and your point of contact for booking in TB tests and for any questions relating to TB work
We take our responsibilities as prescribing veterinary surgeons seriously when it comes to the supply and use of medicines on farm. We run Red Tractor approved medicine courses and will review your medicine use on –farm during Herd/Flock Health meetings to ensure that you are using medicines responsibly and that treatment protocols are effective.
We stock a large array of veterinary medicines and supplies but certain items we will order as required. We politely ask clients to pre-order their medicines so we can ensure that they are ready for collection on your arrival. Products we order in specifically usually arrive the next working day. If you would like your supplies delivering please ring and speak to Becky or Nancy.
